Geneva Brooks Reid
Funeral services for Ms. Geneva Brooks Reid will be held Monday, January 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Higgs Funeral Home in Soperton. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Reverend Gilbert Posey will officiate. Ms. Geneva died Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Autumn Lane Health & Rehab in Gray, GA after a brief illness.
Ms. Geneva was born on April 24, 1931 in Villa Rica, GA to William Roy Hendrix and Lula Mae Craig Hendrix. She attended school in Villa Rica and married her husband, Mayes, Sr when he got out of the Navy. After marrying, they lived in the Atlanta area and started a family. In 1955, they moved to Soperton. She began a longtime career as a seamstress at Soperton Manufacturing Company and later was co-operator of Brooks Bar-B-Q Shack in Soperton. After Mayes, Sr.’s death, she married Billie Higgs and moved to Lothair to become a farmer’s housewife. After his death, she was married to A.C. Reid of Soperton until his death. In 2022, she moved into Treutlen Health & Rehab and later moved to Autumn Lane Health & Rehab in Gray, GA until her death. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Soperton and the Helen Perry Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Luther Mayes Brooks, Sr, Billie Higgs and A.C. Reid; her five sons, Mayes, Jr, Bill, Wayne, Gary and Danny Brooks; sister, Lois Blevin and two brothers, Harvey and Herman Hendrix.
Survivors include son, Neil (Angela) Brooks of Gray; sister, Miriam Tyson of Villa Rica; brother, J.B. (Joann) Hendrix of Duluth; eleven grandchildren, Bobby (Noel) Brooks of Simpsonville, SC, Gina (Jim) Miller of Springboro, OH, Will (Katie) Brooks of Jesup, Stewart Brooks of Jesup, Jamie Brooks, Jason (Jenna) Brooks of Soperton, Luke Brooks of Shellman’s Bluff, Kim (Jeff) Keene of Savannah, Renee (Hank) Mosley of Cedar Crossing, Nicki (Eddie) Harris of Gray and Kris (Kristen) Brooks of Gray; 28 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
