Devin Xavier Hightower
Devin Xavier Hightower passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024. He had been a resident of Treutlen County for 4 years. He grew up in Gordon and Macon, GA before moving to Shaker Heights, OH, where he finished his high school years at Shaker Heights High School. Devin was born on September 17, 1997 in Dublin GA. At only a few hours old he drew much laughter from his expressive eyebrows as he 100% mimicked those eyebrow expressions of his dad.
Devin had a deep love for all animals. From the smallest toad, which he loved hanging out with on a summer evening, to having to be repeatedly told, “No, you cannot have a pet bear” his love for animals was pure and abundant. As a teenager he enjoyed volunteering at the Macon Animal Shelter.
A lifelong love of cooking began at the age of 8 when he asked for his first piece of salmon to cook. He found zen in cooking, from brownies to brisket. He was unmatched in his grilling of steaks with homemade marrow butter and smoking briskets and Boston butts. Southern summer garden tomatoes, no store bought though, with lemon pepper was a treat he loved for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. His dream and biggest goal was to one day train as a chef in Japan.
He enjoyed reading on all subjects and had a wealth of knowledge he loved to share with others. Much like his granddaddy he enjoyed carpentry and working with his hands and was a handyman by trade. He loved nature and found ultimate peace while visiting his parents in California and watching the sunrise upon the mountaintop with a relaxing ‘smoke’ in hand. Oftentimes misunderstood, he was an extremely tenderhearted soul and his love for family ran deep and strong. His nightly calls to his mom to say, “Good night. I Love You.” was one of the most important things in this world to him. He was deeply kind, respectful, and truly appreciative to those close enough to know him well.
Devin was proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents, Collen Crown, Frank Crown, and Tommy Dunn. His paternal grandparents Denise Hightower and Bobby Hightower. Devin leaves behind his parents, Stephanie and Jonathan Hightower, and his brother, Zachary Hightower, all of Beachwood, OH. He is also survived by his uncle, Curtis Dunn, of Hawkinsville, GA, a special cousin, William Hightower, of Madison, OH, and his beloved dog, Alaska.
A very special thanks to Treutlen County Sherriff, Tommy Corbin, for the positive impact he had on Devin’s life.
A memorial service followed by a family cookout will be held at the farm of Deidre and Henry Flanders – 364 Alton Lawson Rd. Adrian, GA - at 2 PM on Saturday, Sept. 14th. Casual attire is requested.
