Richard Orion Ware

Funeral services with Military Honors and Masonic Rites for Mr. Richard Orion Ware will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the Soperton First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Boiling Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Treutlen County. Reverend Chad Cofield and Reverend George Grimes will officiate. Mr. Ware died Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Mr. Ware, 78, was the son of the late Woodrow W. Ware and Frankie Calhoun Ware. He was born in Vidalia, GA on January 9, 1947 and was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County. He was a “Class of 1965” graduate of Treutlen High School, attended Middle GA College and transferred to the University of GA where received his Criminal Justice Degree. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, a 30 year retiree from the GADOT weights & measures/inspector division and a member since 1975 of the Harmony Masonic Lodge #405 where he was also the 1983 Past Master. Mr. Ware was a former Fire Chief of the Oglethorpe Volunteer Fire Department and a Treutlen County School Bus Driver. As a Deacon of the Soperton First Baptist Church, he taught Sunday School and attended DBA Camp in Adrian for many years. After his father’s passing, he became the operator/manager of the Triple W Service Station in Soperton for a number of years. His wife of 42 years, Marsha Lumley Ware and two brothers, Robert & John Ware, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Joanna & Chet Sconyers of Soperton, granddaughter, Hattie Claire Sconyers; brother, Woodrow (Marilyn) Ware, Jr of Aiken, SC; two sisters, Janet (Frank) Littleton of Broxton, GA and Judy Wommack of Morganton, NC; aunt, Ann Calhoun of Soperton and four sisters-in-law, Debbie C. Ware, Betty Sue Ware, Teresa (Donnie) Cammack and Bonnie (Joe) Brown and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 2:00 PM on Sunday.
