Virginia Smith Lawson
Virginia Smith Lawson (b. July 28, 1942) went to be with our Lord peacefully after an extended illness at her home on December 6, 2024 with her devoted caregiver son by her side.
Ms. Lawson was born in Dublin but raised in Treutlen County. She completed her degree in office administration at Augusta Tech in 1968 and was a retired executive secretary for the project engineering department at Southwire Corporation in Carrollton, GA. After retirement, she moved back to Treutlen County near her home place in 1989.
Ms. Lawson was predeceased by her parents O.V. Smith and Alma Barnhill Smith, her husband William H. Lawson, Sr., three brothers: Vinon, Gerald, and Steve Smith, and a nephew, Jody Smith. Survivors are her devoted son, Jack E. Josey, Jr. (Joey), brother Keith Smith, sister Sheila Bryant, and several nieces and nephews.
“Ms. Virginia," or “Ginger," as she was affectionately called, was a private woman who loved to keep a neat and clean yard and home. She enjoyed spending time online shopping for essentials, reading her Bible, and watching television, especially documentaries. For the last 8 years, she lived with and was cared for by her son.
A private graveside service was conducted by pastor Griffin Beall at Barnhill-Davis Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 9, 2024.
