Doris P. Jones
Doris P. Jones of Dublin passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 21,
2015. She was born the sixth of seven children to the parents of Mr. and
Mrs. William G. Powell in Harrison, GA. Her parents, along with all her
siblings, were there to welcome her to her eternal home along with her
late husband’s, Joseph Parker Bush and Bennie F. Jones. Also in
attendance was her infant son, Ted Bush, that she longed to hold for 58
years.
In her school days she attended many different ones, always making new
friends along the way. Her favorite was her Conder High School years as
she excelled as one of Conders finest basketball players and where she met
her high school sweetheart (Parker Bush) that went on to become her
husband and the father of her three children, Paula Bush Brown, Ted Bush
(deceased) and Pam Bush (Larry) Smith. After high school she went to work
in the textile industry (JP Stevens) until she retired after 28 years.
She became quite an entrepreneur opening a grocery store, beauty salon and
later with second husband Bennie F. Jones co-owned Dublin Glass and Body
Shop along with opening three car washes.
She loved the summer months and daylight savings time and disliked the
winter months with a passion because she couldn’t get outside. She was
infamous for her love of cutting grass in heels, keeping house, floral
arranging and her love of coffee. She also loved nature walks, bird
watching, country music, but nothing compared to her love of spending time
with family. She excelled in homemaking and raising children and grand
children.
She lived her life for her family, giving unselfishly to all that knew
her. She loved picking her grandchildren (Kody, Beb, Brett and Ben) up
from school and attending functions; especially their ball games. She was
their biggest cheerleader whether they won or lost. It was never too hot
or too cold nor was she too tired or sick for her to attend. She was on
hand to welcome her two great grandbabies, Bently and Carter Smith, into
this world. These two great grandbabies were her pride and joy and
brought her much happiness in the last couple of years.
Her greatest accomplishment other than successfully raising a family was
her relationship with her Lord and Savior. She is at the Pearly Gates at
this moment making everyone take their shoes off before entering.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories two daughters, Paula Brown of
Rockledge and Pam (Larry) Smith of Dublin; two step sons, Terry and Garry
Jones of Dublin and eleven grandchildren; Kody (Cassie) Smith, Beb Brown,
Brett Smith, Ben Brown, Larry (Sara) Smith, Jr., all of Dublin, Logan,
McCall and Coleman of Milledgeville, Jennifer (Jeff) Reynolds of Athens,
Kim Broxton and Joey Reid of Pensacola, FL and two great grandsons,
Bentley Smith and Carter Smith. She also leaves to cherish her memory
many nieces and nephews that she adored and loved dearly. She loved the
Integrity Hospice Staff and Shamrock Nursing Home (Hall D) staff like
family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the
Chapel of Higgs Funeral Home in Soperton with burial to follow in the
Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens County. Reverend Nolan McDaniel
and Reverend Larry Rowland will officiate.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Higgs Funeral Home in
Soperton.
