Dr. Oscar “Sammy” Holton
A “Celebration of Life” service for Dr. Sammy Holton will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 10:00 AM at 1427 GA Hwy 56 in the Gillis Springs community in Treutlen County. Reverend Glen Pulliam will officiate. Dr. Holton died Tuesday, August 17, 2021.
Dr. Holton, 63, was the son of the late Oscar Odine & Dorothy Poole Holton. He was born in Swainsboro on January 7, 1958 and was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County.
He was graduate of Treutlen High School “Class of 1976”, a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a Masters Degree in Education and received his Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University. He was employed as an Instructor with Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia & Swainsboro. Sammy was a member of Holton Chapel Church and also attended Bethsaida Baptist Church in Treutlen County. His sister, Tiny Lou Holton, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his life partner of 42 years, Calvin W. Moses of Soperton; three sisters, Edith (Joel) Watson of Macon, Peggy (Billy) Norris of Soperton and Karene McGhee of Soperton; six nieces & nephews, Debbie Norris, Eddie Norris, Jackie Epps, Al Watson, David Richardson and Jason Richardson & several great and great-great nieces/nephews.
