Dorothy Agnes Porter Mitchell
Funeral services for Ms. Dorothy Agnes Porter Mitchell of Uvalda will be held Thursday, September 16, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Mt. Vernon Pentecostal Church in Montgomery County. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery. Reverend Ray Wood and grandson, Matthew Lamb will officiate. Ms. Mitchell died Monday, September, 13, 2021 at Memorial Health in Savannah after a sudden illness.
Ms. Mitchell, 73, was the daughter of the late Harvey Edward Porter and Edna Lucille Stevens Porter. She was born in Bloomington, Indiana on October 3, 1947. She had been a resident of Georgia for the past 37+ years with the last 20 having lived in Montgomery County. She worked as a teacher in Christian education for 22 years before retiring in 2006. She loved to sew, cross-stitch, read and play board games, with her favorite being Yahtzee. Dorothy was a long-time member of Cornerstone Pentecostal Church. Her husband, Wayne Mitchell and three sisters, Wanda Frye, Mary Grubbs and Brenda Hostetler, all preceded her in death.
She is survived and loved by her three children, Steven (Kim) Mitchell of Dublin, Debbie (Henry) Lamb of Uvalda and Laura (Mike) Spivey of Vidalia; one sister, Alice Hostetler of Unionville, IN; ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Seth Carelock and Charles Spivey.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Billy Black, Jordy Kelley, Jarad Kelley, James McCoy, Tyler Rollins and Logan Rollins.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 AM.
